How much is an idea? The right answer
Many economists and analysts are bothered in the matter of the Ideas cost from the earliest times. And this question is really relevant, because there are ideas that literally chang the world and bring billions of dollars. And there are ideas that may seem promising, but will not bring a hundredth part of the expected results. I decided to present my vision of the problem.
In article "Correct calculation ofshare in the Internet Project" I mentioned a figure of 10%, but this is the maximum that can be evaluated in the idea , if you come to an investor with an idea and a bunch of calculations to implement this idea - no one will give you more than 10% in this project. Why so?
The fact that so many people overestimate the idea, and underestimate the works on the implementation of this idea. For good reason in all the laws on the protection of intellectual property is said that the idea is not patented. Otherwise now I would think about tourist flights into space, golf in weightlessness, a chocolate which doesn’t give you extra kilos, social service "Freedom of Speech", where everyone can say whatever they want on a particular issue and many interesting and potential promising millions ideas. Many people believe that ideas are priceless. They are right, because all of these ideas to me without looking at the prospect, relevance and good many ups and downs do not cost absolutely anything yet. It's just my thought. Of course, when I take this idea, concentrate on it, draw up a detailed business plan for T years, make discount, write down the area of responsibility, the organizational structure of the project, gather a team that is ready for work on it - that looks promising. With this result, you can go and look for investors. And, as I said before, the investor will give you maximum of 10% and perhaps you will manage this project.
Why so? - You ask.
Before, I also thought so, but now I understand that investors in this case are quite right. After all, you have not invested in your future company nothing except good thoughts and bustle, and they will invest real money and resources in it.
In fact, this is a problem of many who start their own business - we appreciate our investment in advance. And because of that our shares are distributed very irrationally. Investments in business should not be viewed in advance, like today I have 70%, but I will fulfill the 70% later in six months when we run our company, it will bring income, but only until you do invest and build, so that the rest is mine - the idea, the future liability. These arguments seem very irrational. This is equivalent to saying to be a leader on credit. If you don’t have anything but an idea, and you are not going to invest more - 10% is the maximum for which you may qualify, and that's assuming that your project is sufficiently small. In such global projects, like Google or Facebook ideas cost will be evaluated in no more than 3-5%.
I have a good promising idea, I am willing to work and want to have more than 10%!
If you are really willing to work, then it is not necessary to go so far to investors. Try to implement your idea by yourself, let it be not so big, let it be a little crooked, but you need to do something that will actually work. The investor should notice the main thing - that he/she does not have to create anything from scratch, but will need to invest in the development of an existing project. In this case, the ratio of your investment will be much greater than 10 % at the time of the investment, and in many cases, it will exceed 50%, and you will be able to l lay down your demands, because in addition to the beautiful graphics and words, now you have a working and real-life project.
